på torsdag, opdaterede jeg min blog...

Hej!

I find myself writing during yet ANOTHER rare Danish snowstorm. I can't believe how much we've gotten here. But finally it is starting to feel warm! I looked up my idea of "warm" on weather.com, and it said 32º. I guess I'm being conditioned to appreciate a rise in a few degrees. I won't complain about the weather anymore this time.

The past two weeks have been action-packed, and I haven't allocated enough time to update, but I'll try to briefly sum up some of what I did. My core class, European Politics and Society, took a trip the weekend before last to southern Denmark and Hamburg. We drove in a coach bus, where I befriended my fellow classmates and also the bus driver, Klaus. He was really popular with the front-of-the-bus crowd. We also got to watch Atonement on the way up, and Pirates of the Caribbean III on the way back, which was entertaining.

We drove to Lolland, heard a civil servant talk about running the municipality there. Politics here are SO different from politics in the US.. everything is geared toward making people's lives easier--what a concept! Then the bus got on a HUGE ferry that we took to Germany. I swear it was like a floating food court.
(view from the ferry: container ships cross from Hamburg to Denmark)
Also everything was duty-free so some kids went shopping. After our ferry ride (which was beautiful albeit grey), we drove on down to Hamburg. A lot of it was architecturally similar to Copenhagen, but it was different in that Hamburg has the River Elbe running through the center, (Copenhagen has no river).

We got a nice walking tour of the city. We took a nice preliminary look at the town hall (or what used to be Parliament before Otto von Bismarck consolidated the autonomous city-states that now compose modern Germany). Here is me in front of the Hamburg Parliament:

We later heard a lecture from an MP and we got a nice tour of the interior of the building.

Anyway, the trip was a great experience. Next sunday we leave for Brussels/the Hague for 6 days! that should be an adventure. More to come...

also, i cant help but post this picture of an AMAZING slice of cake i had on valentine's day. wasn't so lonely after all :)

yummmmm!

word/phrase of the day: "jeg spiller computerspil" means i play videogames. hahah.
